Locomotives On February 2, 2019, Norfolk Southern gathered five of its specially painted "DC to AC" converted locomotives for a photo shoot at its Juniata Locomotive Shop located in Altoona, PA. All photos below were taken by Marc Lingenfelter. From left to right below, the 5 units included:

Norfolk Southern No. 4000 is a AC44C6M locomotive converted from No. 8799 a D9-40C unit built by GE in 1995. To recognize its conversion, the unit sports a new blue and light gray paint scheme. Norfolk Southern Norfolk Southern Nos. 4000 and 4001 pose outside the paint shop in Chattanooga, Tenn., for their first portrait together.

Pulling Together Norfolk Southern in Asheville, NC
Nicknamed the "Tuscon Red Mane", Norfolk Southern rebuilt these locomotives from former engines in their fleet and renumbered them 4002 & 4003, model AC44C6M, and applied this special paint scheme for their DC to AC rebuilds. These 2 wooden train engines #4002 & #4003 are sold as a set. Each engine is 6" long.
